Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Introduces 26V Simple-to-Use 1.5MHz Buck Regulators

August 9, 2011

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 9, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS) (Nasdaq:AOSL), a designer, developer and global supplier of a broad range of power semiconductors, today announced the release of the AOZ1280 and AOZ1281 high efficiency, simple-to-use, 1.5MHz PWM buck regulators. The AOZ1280 is available in the industry standard SOT23 package while the AOZ1281 comes in the small size DFN 2x2mm package, providing output current of 1.2A and 1.8A, respectively. These new devices are well suited for a variety of networking and communications applications such as routers, wireless access points, DSL modems, cable modems and set top boxes.

The internal MOSFET of AOZ1280/1 offers a very low on-resistance of 240mOhms, which is approximately 20% lower than the current leading competitor. The lower on-resistance switch allows higher efficiency which reduces the heat generated and transferred to the system. Internal compensation, along with a high 1.5MHz switching frequency, reduces the size and number of external components. These attributes allow system designers to meet their power budget while reducing overall system size and complexity.

"These new products allow us to meet the ever increasing demand for high efficiency, small footprint, and easy to use power converters for designs that operate from of a wide range of DC input voltages," said Song Qu, Director of Power IC Product Marketing at AOS.
