Alpha and Omega Semiconductor's New 100V MOSFETs Offer Significantly Better Conduction and Switching Performance

August 9, 2011

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 9, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS) (Nasdaq:AOSL), a designer, developer and global supplier of a broad range of power semiconductors, today announced the release of AOT290L and AOT2918L, the first two parts in a new line of 100V MOSFET products aimed to push the boundaries of high-efficiency MOSFET devices. By taking advantage of major enhancements in device technology, these new devices offer designers exciting new opportunities to build higher efficiency power supply solutions that meet increasingly stringent green product requirements.

"With the introduction of these new products and technology, our medium voltage MOSFET product portfolio is further strengthened," said Dr. Mike Chang, President and CEO of AOS. "This development is strategically important to us as we strive to become a full-service power semiconductor solution provider. These products will allow us to expand our serviceable available markets (SAM), especially in the Telecom, Datacom and Power Supply segments."

The AOT290L offers an industry-leading figure of merit (RDS(ON) * Qg) of 243mOhm-nC that is 15% better than the current leading competitor. AOS also offers a higher ohmic version with the AOT2918L. Both products are well suited for medium voltage primary-side power supply applications and are available in TO-220 as well as in D2PAK Green package options with 100% Rg and UIS testing.

"Designers of DC-DC converters aim to reduce power consumption by minimizing losses during conduction and switching," said Yalcin Bulut, Vice President of Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Product Lines at AOS. "Our new 100V MOSFETs are optimized to deliver both very low on-resistance and very low Qg in order to achieve overall high efficiency."

Technical Highlights

AOT290L

  • 100V N-channel MOSFET in TO-220 package
  • Also available in the D2PAK package as AOB290L
  • RDS(ON) < 3.5 mOhms at VGS = 10V
  • CRSS = 42 pF typ
  • Qg (10V) = 90 nC typ
  • Lowest RDS(ON) * Qg figure of merit in the market

AOT2918L

  • 100V N-channel MOSFET in TO-220 package
  • Also available in the D2PAK package as AOB2918L
