Photo Release -- Alpha and Omega Semiconductor's New MOSFET Solutions Bring Major Performance Improvements to Power Critical Designs

March 8, 2011

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 8, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited ("AOS") (Nasdaq:AOSL), a designer, developer and global supplier of a broad range of power semiconductors, introduced today at APEC 2011 two new power MOSFETs that redefine performance standards in a wide array of consumer and industrial applications.

AOS is offering two new low-voltage devices optimized for use on the secondary side of high efficiency DC-DC converters. By combining extremely low on-resistance with a very low gate charge, the 40V AON6240 and 60V AOT260L bring high efficiency to a wide range of consumer, telecom, industrial and LED backlighting applications. Both devices feature a soft recovery body diode to lower switching losses and hence lower power consumption for energy-saving green solutions.

"The lower your conduction and switching losses, the higher your efficiency," said Yalcin Bulut, Vice President of Low- and Medium-Voltage MOSFETs for AOS. "By radically changing our device structure and enhancing our process, we have dramatically improved RDS (ON) and Qg and, in the process, redefined the traditional figure-of-merit (FOM) for these applications."

Technical Highlights

AON6240

  • 40V N-channel MOSFET in DFN 5x6 package
  • RDS(ON) at VGS = 10V < 1.6 mOhms
  • RDS(ON) at VGS = 4.5V < 2.4 mOhms
  • CRSS = 176 pF max
  • Qg (10V) = 73 nC typ
  • FOM 70% better than previous generation

AOT260L

  • 60V N-channel MOSFET in TO-220 package
  • Also available in the D2PAK package as AOB260L
  • RDS(ON) at VGS = 10V < 2.5 mOhms
  • CRSS = 68 pF max
  • Qg  (10V) = 150 nC
  • FOM 69% better than previous generation

Both parts are Halogen-free and 100% UIS and Rg tested.

Pricing and Availability

The AON6240 and AOT260L are immediately available in production quantities. The unit prices for 10,000 pieces are as follows:

AON6240: $0.925
AOT260L: $1.8
