Photo Release -- Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Launches Next Generation EZBuck(TM) DC-DC Regulator Family

July 29, 2010

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 29, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS) (Nasdaq:AOSL) expands its synchronous EZBuckTM portfolio with four new next generation DC-DC step-down regulators. The AOZ103x series is designed to efficiently convert input voltages in the range of 4.5V to 18V down to lower voltage levels required to power latest generation microcontrollers, ASICs, DSPs, memory, and other IC chipsets. The new products feature improved efficiency at light loads and expanded output current ratings, which make them ideal for applications such as the latest generation of LCD TVs, BluRay players, set-top boxes, servers and high-end desktop PCs.

The AOZ1031, AOZ1034, AOZ1036/AOZ1037 are 600kHz PWM current mode regulators rated at 3A, 4A, and 5A, respectively.  For maximum efficiency performance, the new AOZ103x family automatically adjusts between two modes of operation: a synchronous mode for heavy load current conditions, and a non-synchronous mode to save power in light load conditions. The light load mode provides up to 20% efficiency improvement at 100mA of output current. The products are offered in small size SO-8, exposed pad SO-8 and DFN5x4 package options.

"As today's consumer electronics products build in more features that require more processing power, designers are requiring DC-DC converters that offer more output current in the same or smaller solution size than with previous generations. At the same time the drive for 'Greener' products is requiring solutions with higher efficiency performance across a wider load range. The new AOZ103x series meets these design challenges by providing higher output current and higher efficiency in a compact area," said Alan Moore, Manager of Power IC Marketing at AOS.
