SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 9, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS) (Nasdaq:AOSL), a designer, developer and global supplier of a broad range of power semiconductors, today announced the release of AOZ1231-01, a high-efficiency, easy-to-use synchronous buck regulator that operates to 28V and provides 4A of continuous output current in a 5x5mm QFN package. The new product provides a compact and high efficiency DC/DC
solution that can reliably meet the demanding requirements of transient load response of the latest digital IC chipsets. The combination of high performance and small solution size makes AOZ1231-01 ideally suited for providing DC/DC solutions to the high end Computing, Telecom and Datacom market segments.
The AOZ1231-01 features proprietary ceramic-stable constant on-time (COT) PWM control with input feed-forward that is programmable to 1MHz switching frequency. The control architecture allows compact designs that reduce external capacitors. It also produces an ultra-fast response to load transients while maintaining a relatively constant switching frequency over the entire input voltage range. The AOZ1231-01 internal power stage has 40% lower on-resistance than the leading competitor, reducing the total power dissipation and heat generation to improve overall system reliability.
"We are pleased to release the first of an emerging line up of products utilizing our new COT platform. The AOZ1231-01 demonstrates the combined strength of AOS' IC design, discrete technology, and packaging capability that are opening up new higher end markets for us in the Computing and Communications segments," said Dr. Mike Chang, President and CEO of AOS.
